Mark Howard, DVM
Owner / Veterinarian
Mark Howard, born and raised in the Midwest, moved to Colorado to attend the USAFA and later Colorado State University Veterinary College. He worked with Dr. Beckvermit at Alameda Vet Clinic from 1980-1986 and returned in 1994 to purchase the practice. He is a past president of the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society and the current president of the SVMA. In his free time, he enjoys skiing, road biking, swing dancing, and spending time with his family, standard poodle Remi, and cats Caliope and George. Dr. Howard is dedicated to providing exceptional care for his patients and their families.

Tracy Duerksen, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Duerksen comes to us from the East Coast, where she attended Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. Dr. Duerksen is a proud member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. When she's not at work, she loves to spend time with her book club and follows the Avalanche Hockey team.

Molly Dawson, RVT
Registered Veterinary Technician
Molly has a lifelong passion for caring for animals. After working as a veterinary assistant while studying English Literature at the University at Buffalo, she continued to expand her professional career in the veterinary field. After working in the veterinary services department of the largest animal shelter in the Rocky Mountain region and advancing to Director of Animal Health at a cage-free cat shelter, Molly decided to bring her expertise to Alameda Vet Clinic. As a Registered Vet Tech (RVT), she continues to provide high-quality care to the animals she loves, and acts as the Director of Grants and Giving for the Gray Muzzle Society. In her free time, Molly enjoys traveling with her husband and spending time with her many furry family members.

Erica Koontz, CVT, RVT
Practice Manager
Erica K. moved to Colorado from the midwest in 2000, where she volunteered at animal shelters and hung out with her friends who lived on farms. She graduated from Bel Rea Institute of Veterinary Technology in 2009 and became a member of CACVT in the same year. For over 20 years she has devoted her life to providing the best quality care for everyone's furry companions. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two dogs (Macho Nacho & Groot), and her niece and nephew. She loves to make people laugh, roller-skate, craft, travel, and try new foods.

Casey Kohler
Veterinary Nurse
Casey is an animal lover with a passion for providing the best possible care to pets. She has two dogs, Peanut (a Chihuahua mix) and Lucky (an English bulldog), who often visit the clinic, as well as three beloved guinea pigs. With a willingness to go the extra mile for animals in need, Casey is excited to meet and care for your pets at Alameda Vet Clinic.

Destaney Garcia
Customer Service Representative
Destaney has been working at Alameda since 2023. She has always had a love for animals and plans on starting the Veterinary Technician Program this fall. Destaney has three dogs of her own, Gizmo, Scarlett, and Monkey. Outside of work she likes to hang out with her friends, hike with the dogs, and watch movies.

Ryan Perkins
Veterinary Nurse
Ryan's love for animals started at a young age, growing up around a barn where his mother, a horse trainer, introduced him to a variety of creatures, from horses to lizards and frogs. Searching for a career that aligned with his passion, Ryan joined VCA as a kennel technician, later moving to a vet assistant position and then a tech assistant supervisor. He eventually left the corporate world and pursued his true passion at Alameda Vet Clinic. When not working, Ryan enjoys woodworking and epoxy projects, hiking, and attending concerts.

Erica M
Customer Service Representative
Erica M. has been working in veterinary medicine for over 10 years in many different aspects of the hospital. Having parents in the military, she has moved every 3 years of her entire life! She loves to explore new places, try new things, and meet people from all over the world. In her free time she enjoys participating in obstacle course races, hiking with her dog River, and playing video games. She hopes to one day be a contestant on the reality show, Survivor!

Yareli Soto Gonzalez
Veterinary Nurse
Yareli has been working at Alameda since 2023, and has been a veterinary nurse for 6 years. She is a big dog lover! She has a dog named Blaze who is going on 10 years old. Outside of work, Yareli enjoys going to the gym to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Katie Teal Ellington
Veterinary Nurse
Katie Teal is represented by Ebby who created his own Easter eggs! She has been working at Alameda since 2022. Outside of work, Katie Teal and Ebby love arts and crafts!
